Spiraling through Halloween

Pumpkin sculpting is the "it" thing this year and I wanted to try it myself!  So I found this small Cinderella pumpkin that I thought we be perfect for this project.  Its green hues give off a fun contrast and show off this shallow sculpting technique.

I brought my Williams-Sonoma Pumpkin Carving Kit down from the cupboard and needed only the sculpting tool for this pumpkin since I wanted to keep it simple for my first time around.

Step 1:
With a pencil, draw your design on the pumpkin for guidance.

Step 2:
Use your sculpting tool to scrape out the top layer of the pumpkin's skin.  And go all away around until you are at the bottom!

Almost done!

The final product.  I'm so happy with the outcome.  It almost glows!  And the design reminded me of a web with the pumpkin's natural grooves, so I made it a home for my eight-legged friend Harry.
